Dubias have become the most popular reptile feeders,and for good reason. While no single insect is perfect all on its’ own (that’s why
variety is so important), dubias come closer than anything else. They boast an excellent nutrient profile, and have a decent level of calcium, much higher than crickets. Best of all, they are perfect for gut-loading. They have a long and efficient digestive tract, and it takes three days for digestion to occur. This means that all the veggies your dubias eat in the three days before they become dinner
themselves, will be available to your pet. This is a great way to get veggies into picky eaters that are not crazy about salads.
Dubias are also very easy to keep alive, and can be kept for weeks or months at a warm room temperature. The warmer they are, up to 90 degrees F, the more they will eat. Feed a diet of carrots, green cabbage, kale, dandelion greens, or alfalfa shoots and leaves. This will also provide all the moisture they need. As they are burrowing bugs, dropping dubias directly into your enclosure will
not work. They will hide before your animal has a chance to eat them. Instead, use appropriate feeding bowls to offer the dubias to your pets.
